Raised in a small town in north Mississippi, Matt enjoyed the simplicities of a country life while experiencing the complexities of life in ministry as a pastor’s son.
Music was a natural part of his upbringing in a very musical family, so as a young man, he began singing and writing gospel music.
Every child of God has a story, and Matt is no exception. Having experienced his own chapter as a prodigal, his testimony of God’s providence, redemption, continued faithfulness and unmerited favor are evidenced in the lyrics of his music.
Matt’s life verse is Matthew 6:33, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt says, “God gave this verse to me after my life had been destroyed by pursuing addiction. He said, ‘If you go after me, I’ll take care of you.’”
Matt surrendered to the call to ministry in 2003 and since that time has ministered as evangelist, singer/songwriter, and pastor. True to his commitment, he has dedicated his life, his music, and all his ministry pursuits to his faithful Father, and God is using his music and his message to heal, to redeem, and to restore.
Reminiscent of the church of yester-year while characterized by heartfelt worship to a very present God, his music is a blend of good-old southern gospel and modern intimate worship.
Perhaps the words of his song All About Your Glory say it best: “It’s not about me. It’s all about You. Everything that pulls me down sets a stage for Your glory to shine through…It’s not about the heartache of my story. It’s all about, all about Your glory.”
